Don’t watch any screens for entertainment

Quote of the Day: If it keeps up, man will atrophy all his limbs but the push-button finger. ~Frank Lloyd Wright

Question of the Day:  If not now, when?

CHALLENGE:   Don’t watch any screens for entertainment including TV or going to the movies.  You can to use your devices for work and school but not for entertainment.

  • Beginner: 24 hours
  • Intermediate: 48 hours
  • Advanced: 4 consecutive days
  • Extreme: 7 consecutive days

Why do This?

Many of us are too attached to being frequently entertained by our devices.  We tend to learn more about ourselves and others if we are not always distracted by our devices.  Try to estimate how much time each day you spend on your devices.  Think about the goals you have and how much easier it would be to achieve those goals if you spent less time on your devices and more time focusing on your goals.

Tips and tricks for Success:

  • Consider unplugging the devices that you don’t use for school or work
  • Don’t bring any devices into your bedroom
  • Get the rest of your household members to participate
  • Make a list of your other interests and start pursuing them

What I have learned about cutting down on screen time for entertainment:

I used to think that I didn’t have any time to pursue other interests, then about 3 years ago I got rid of premium cable.  Reducing TV time also motivated me to significantly decrease the amount of time I spent watching entertainment on other screens.  I realized that there are so many other interests that I would rather pursue.  I feel healthier and more vibrant as I am spending much less time sitting in front of the TV, the computer, or flipping through my phone.
